The Truth:

Having originally seen service at the Bull & Gate in Kentish Town roundabout the end of the last century you can imagine Club Panda’s alarm and surprise when it was dug up, dusted down and delivered back in the public eye in the summer of 2008. But reborn it was and Club Panda now rolls into the new year frosty of frown and rumpled of shirt, and firmly ensconced in its new slot of every single first Tuesday of each month at the Dublin Castle. And here come the details for February’s beaming bash…

10.15pm THE OUTSIDE ROYALTY are a sixpiece indie chamber rock band formed in Pennsylvania. Now there is a sentence we don’t type every day. Think Pulp, think Roxy Music, think Arcade Fire, think big musical statements made with a swagger and a dreamy sway from these pop dramatists who now reside in the cockney smoke. And good for them. www.myspace.com/theoutsideroyalty

9.30pm THE BRIDPORT DAGGER are a bassless trio from London Town who go hubba first and ask pointed questions later. ‘Flamencobilly’ and ‘garage-folk’ are just some of the imaginative phrases being twanged their way, and watch out for that there saxomaphone… www.myspace.com/thebridportdagger

8.45pm AMORISTE are britPop with a small ‘b’ and a big ‘P’. Essex is where their home is, kitchen sink indie dramas which zip and zag in the style of Coldplay, Gene and Air Traffic is where their heart lies. At one point they sing about “Jumpers for goalposts in the park”. At another they decided to change their name, so if you’re quick you’ll catch Amoriste at www.myspace.com/sopranoband

8.00pm RECORD DEPARTMENT are very pithy young people, as evinced by their online biography which starts with Figure 1: [“Flattering and unnecessarily detailed history of band”] and proceeds merrily through to Figure 5: [“Witless sign off laced with self adulation and cajolery”]. It’s a blast. And so in fact is their tense, perturbed sonic racketeering. Enjoy the whole picture at www.myspace.com/recorddept
