And now the end is near. Yes, this Club Panda event is the very last Club Fandango night at the Dublin Castle. Over the course of eight and a half years – since its inception in March 2001 – the Fandango Tuesday tiger has seen bands come, go and sometimes come back again. The names are legion: Arctic Monkeys, Keane, Bloc Party, Death Cab For Cutie, Razorlight, The Killers and, of course, Le Neon are just a gnat’s handful of the combos who’ve played over the 400-plus shows at this most durable of venues which, fresh from a splendid brace of Camden Crawl shows and  a lovely write-up in last week’s Saturday Times magazine thanks to Suggs, not to mention the installation of brand new lights, is in ruder health than ever before.

For Club Fandango a whole new dawn awaits with brand new nights being launched at no fewer that four unsuspecting venues in October - more news on those any day now. Until that day we leave you with our final Dublin Castle bill which is a lovely taster for the Fistful Of Fandango event taking place from Wednesday to Saturday the very same week at the 229 and, in true fandango fashion, is a crash bang walloping punchbag of a leftfield bill featuring another four hectic hopefuls from the demented end of the street, rather like this:

THE INSTAMATICS (onstage 10.15pm) are three boys and two girls who take the blondes-have-more-fun ethic and crank it up several pop notches. Think perky, polished, pouty perambulations with a nod to the admirable legacy of Blondie and you’re not too far away from the right ballpark. www.myspace.com/theinstamatics

THE NEAT (onstage 9.30pm) are four cheeky bloomin’ chirpy self-proclaimed angelheaded hipsters from Hull. We reckon their crunchy agitpop noise sounds a little bit like The Fall arm wrestling a very very very young Idlewild to death, and we’re usually right. www.myspace.com/uptheneat

I REMEMBER TAPES (onstage 8.45pm) are four young men in thrall to the classic rocksters of the past 30 years but who wear their influences as tidily as they do their Ben Shermans. Thunderously large choruses are their speciality, and ‘Cold’ is an arena-rocking cracker over at www.myspace.com/iremembertapes

THE SPORT (onstage 8.00pm) are five young men from Stoke-On-Trent who deliver spirited, sarky alternative tuneage with a big pop swagger and eyes like daggers. Rather excellently their myspace influences include “cricket, darts, skittles, horseback polo, water polo…” We laughed then, and we’re still laughing now. www.myspace.com/thesportuk
