EASY KILL (onstage 9.45pm) Fans of the spectral and the gently spectacular will take Easy Kill to their hearts as their lovingly-layered sound floats somewhere between the previous esoteric achings of Talk Talk and the modern dramatics of Foals and Alt-J. Somewhat fittingly then, the narrative arc of their new sublimely maudlin ‘Melanscholar’ album concerns itself with a character left in limbo betwixt here and the afterlife, the ghost lost in the machine. You can get a special gig ticket and ‘Melanscholar’ CD bundle for £12.00 from http://www.fiercepanda.co.uk/shop.php?release=565 right now. www.facebook.com/easykillband

NATIONAL SERVICE (onstage 8.45pm) are an intense quartet from Northern London who recently launched their second single ‘Timid Kisses’, an urgent, restless guitar track that couples the quartet’s signature baritone vocal with hypnotic, unrelenting drums. While the tender lyric recalls the fond memory of a love lost, the claustrophobia in the music points towards a more forlorn nostalgia. The song ascends to its frantic climax, ruminating on what is now and what could have been. www.facebook.com/nationalservicemusic

THE TALK SHOW (onstage 8.00pm) are a fresh-faced quartet from both Manchester and Southern London who make excellently jagged artrocking noises which makes is think of Shambeko! Say Wah! or The Cure if they’d signed to Factory Records in 1979, perhaps. www.facebook.com/thetalkshowband
