HABITATS
HABITATS are a four piece band based loosely in the heart and soul of London and the Hampshire area. Following the release of singles 'Diamond Days' and 'Peace Of Mind' in 2014 the band are set to release their debut EP; 'DIAMOND DAYS EP' on 9th February 2015 via Label Fandango and distributed by InGrooves.
To celebrate the release of the the 'Diamond Days EP' they'll be throwing a Free Entry release party at The Shacklewell Arms on Fri 27th February 2015 Support comes from Huskies and White Giant. This will be followed by a 9 date UK Tour which starts on 18th March (details below), the tour concludes with a headline show at The Sebright Arms in London on 27th March.
HABITATS first single 'Diamond Days' was released back in March 2014 generating huge attention for the band on soundcloud, with over 30,000 plays in 1 week & 120,000 plays in under 3 months, the release was supported by festival appearances at the likes of Truck Fest, Lee Fest and Kuahgartn Open Air Festival in Germany. An exotic, hectically sweet-natured debut single it is, too, for these are youngsters who happily align themselves with the modern facebooking fashion for indie / alternative / tropical / grooves. 'Peace Of Mind' followed on 3rd Nov and gained radio play from the likes of Huw Stevens, Steve Lamacq and John kennedy, the release was supported by a 4 date residency at The Old Blue Last, London as well as support slots with Tennis and Y.O.U. But there’s more to the HABITATS’ musical environment than meets the generic eye.
Firstly, HABITATS consist of Mike Lawford (takes a hip flask wherever he goes, the cheap bastard), James Furniss (climbs trees on a daily basis), Joe Payne (gets distracted by all things shiny) and Adam Saunders (has the beautiful moustache of a '70s porn star) - not for them the traditional vagaries of the mundane (bass / backing vox) biographical bracketings. Secondly, they seem to relish the idea of not having a specific frontman, with each of them providing enough strong characteristics in the music to be able to swap microphones at will in the live arena.
Throw in half of the band’s penchant for thunderously gnarly beards and HABITATS display a part-Hobbit, part-habit-forming array of sunshine melodies and gently shabby mayhem, as you may expect from a band which thrives on various experimentalisms and arranging traditional vocal harmonies over danceable and catchy beats. Oh, and whose lyrics are “gathered from daydreams”.
A few of HABITATS’ influences and inspirations in no particular order and subject to change: children's television from the '90s, David Bowie, Earth Wind & Fire, green tea, hot milk and honey, Miles Davis, tassel jackets, Patrick Swayze, Friendly Fires, cigarettes, skateboarding, The Complete Works Of Arthur Conan Doyle, Wes Anderson, surfing, The Bee Gees, alcohol, Tame Impala, arboriculturalists, Sverv Jam studios, Cloud Control, Foals, Pitchfork, Johnny Cash, Donovan, Roxy Music, BBC Radio 2 & 6 Music, Jools Holland, Bloc Party, Brian Cox, Captain Scarlet, Vice Magazine, Electric Proms, Brahms, surfing, David Attenborough, Warpaint, Roald Dahl, Christmas lights, Peter Blake, Local Natives, Stewart Copeland, Leif Podhajsky, Norman Wisdom, Elvis Presley, Laurel & Hardy, Superfood, Terry Wogan, The Eurovision Song Contest, The New Scientist and full-on naturism.
