The Maccabees
The Maccabees ** fierce panda birthday alert! Twelve years. Twelve long years. Twelve bloody long years. That's how far fierce panda has travelled since the tawdry release of the 'Shagging In The Streets' EP in 1994. Our very first party was at the Powerhaus in Islington, but that's shut down now. Our very last party was a year ago at the Bull & Gate for our eleventh birthday, where Keane returned from the stadium circuit to help eat the marzipan. Back then we thought that the Bull & Gate was going the way of the Powerhaus but it is obviously made of sterner stuff and so it is that our very next party is once again taking place in the epicentre of Kentish Town and it features the following fierce panda travellers... THE MACCABEES are South London boys now based in Brighton and caused a massive A&R fuss at last year's In The City. Drawn by romantic intuition to hone their talents on the coast, their post punk styling with elements of drum and bass are bought bang up to date by the dirty driving bass and drums of Rupert Jarvis and Robert Dylan Thomas, the razor sharp twisting sibling guitar presence of Hugo and Felix White and the twitching, jerking, eyes to the ceiling feet to the dance floor vocals of Orlando Weeks. Of late the Maccabees have worked with esteemed producers Gil Norton and Ian Harvie to good effect, and have supported Arctic Monkeys and The Subways and Maximo Park. The Maccabees first single 'X-Ray' was released in Nov '05 on limited edition 7in vinyl on Promise Records. Their second platter, 'Latchmere', is to be serviced by fierce panda on April 10th.
