Gallon Drunk
Gallon Drunk first erupted onto the London gig circuit in 1990 and wasted little time becoming, and remaining, one of the capital's most essential and exciting live propositions. A succession of startling and wildly abrasive singles, including the classic 'Some Fools Mess' followed, their mix of primal rock & roll and abandoned noise coming as a breath of fresh air to the independent charts. Gallon Drunk's early pulverizing rock and roll gigs in North London set the band far apart from the prevailing trends of the day (shoegazing, grunge and Madchester) and drew rapturous plaudits from critics and fans alike. Among those who witnessed and appreciated Gallon Drunk's barn-storming blitzkrieg performances were Nick Cave, Shane McGowan, PJ Harvey, Morrissey and Mark E. Smith who, along with John Peel, are on record saying how much they liked the band. Gallon Drunk's unique brand of sleazy, stripped down rock & roll clearly inspired the likes of PJ Harvey, Yeah Yeah Yeah's and Jon Spencer. Following the rapturous reception of their series of CD reissues earlier in 2007, Gallon Drunk return with their startling new album The Rotten Mile on FRED (label) records. Recorded at Londons Fortress Studios in April 2007, the band bring the much-lauded power of their legendary live performances to the new album. With the line-up of James Johnston (vocals, organ, guitar, harmonica, piano), Terry Edwards (brass, percussion, piano and organ), Ian White (drums, percussion), and Simon Wring (Electric bass, Double bass), the band have definitively captured their sound of fiery passion and excitement.
