Radar
Radar make 21st Century mechanical dub pop about innovation, complacency and conspiracy that fits equally as well on your FM dial as it does soundtracking a debauched late-night bender. Their debut album 'Bright Like The Sun' was recorded over the Summer of 2006, was co-produced by Dan Carey (who has previously produced the likes of Kylie & Sebastien Tellier, Lee Scratch Perry and currently Sly & Robbie) with frontman Callum Johnston and perfectly captures the bands modern digital ska-vibe and was mixed by Cox and Dring, who themselves make up the other two thirds of the Gorillaz production team alongside Dangermouse. This is the sound of Radar, a gang not affected by trend or by scene, by tribe or by cut. Tripped out beats, building baselines and crashing pop melodies both bold and hypnotic in their clutch. Radar has created a sound that is referential without ever being derivative. Instead they have absorbed, contextualized and reinvented for 2007.
