Autoheart
Autoheart are a five piece from East London – Jody Gadsden (vocals) met Simon Neilson (keys) at a party and decided to make a song – a cover of Bronsky Beat’s Small Town Boy… the result, posted on MySpace, caught the attention of Barney (guitar) and David (drums), who completed the line-up. Shuffling together elements of blue-eyed soul, infectious hooks and rhythmic piano lines, their heartfelt delivery results in sometimes poignant, sometimes joyous pop music – with Jody’s mesmerising, at times androgynous vocal falling somewhere between Anthony Haggerty’s torch-soul, Tracey Chapman, and Debbie Harry’s deadpan rhythmic delivery.

Autoheart’s free download Control was “Record of the Day” in December. EQ called it a ‘glorious tune… superb and sublime,’ while blog Who’s Jack described it as: ‘…dark inspiring piano licks with rich heartfelt vocals culminating in simple but alluring pop.’ Having supported The Hidden Cameras, and Scott Matthew, even former voice of an angel Charlotte Church got in on act last week, tweeting that she ‘loved’ the band. Their debut album, produced by Danton Supple, is due for release next year. Click here for a sneak preview of the album.
