The Ran-tan Waltz are a four-piece from Wakefield, fully formed in 2009. The aim is to make music that’s personal and political. Commercial enterprise has stolen rock from its counter-culture origins and it no longer speaks for the people it should speak for. It’s become an entertainment rather than an art. In the truest sense of the word The Ran-Tan Waltz are a folk band, writing music about people and for people that are culturally, socially and politically aware. You see there is a tradition of intelligence, integrity and ambition in rock music which seems to have been forgotten. The aesthetics of punk have remained and the sound aped but punk was never a music type- it was and is a mindset.
