I Am Finn
I Am Finn is actually a strapping young lad called Liam Lever who makes the kind of sparky, strange pop that melts girls and impresses boys. He is 21, lives in London, and has no qualms whatsoever about becoming, as he puts it, ‚Äö?Ñ??an electro Elton John‚Äö?Ñ?? which, in a sense, isn‚Äö?Ñ?¥t exactly out of the question. ‚Äö?Ñ??I look at what I‚Äö?Ñ?¥m doing now as planning for a lot more fun,‚Äö?Ñ?? says Liam with a twinkle in his eye. On the lead song from his stunning debut EP, the tastefully epic ‚Äö?Ñ??I Love You‚Äö?Ñ?¥, he wires a shuffling synth harmony to an explosive, riff-scorched chorus before the whole thing somersaults tunefully into oblivion. ‚Äö?Ñ??I sent the song to my girlfriend to say I love you,‚Äö?Ñ?? he says. ‚Äö?Ñ??She thought I was taking the piss. It was meant to be a nice gesture.‚Äö?Ñ?? Like, say, Beck, Liam sings everything, plays all the instruments (except drums) and does all the programming. He crams a lot into three or four minutes, and not necessarily in the way you expect. And also like Beck, even though he appears to be slouching, it takes a good deal of skill to master that kind of pose. This adventurous style of direct and honest electronic rock is one side to I AM FINN.
