Tacks, The Boy Disaster
Tacks, The Boy Disaster have a sound too expansive to be labeled purely as indie rock. Tacks, the Boy Disaster offer thoughtful and imaginative lyricism, solid musical hooks and rich instrumentation reminiscent of late-'60s/early-'70s pop. Yet the band, whose moniker is derived from a minor character in a forgotten children‚Äö?Ñ?¥s book, has managed to reconcile their brilliant pop sensibility and familiarity with their taste for the unexpected. These little musical surprises, ranging from a juxtaposition of melancholy lyrics with sunshine-y harmonies ?‚Ć la Harry Nilsson to whirling piano lines are what set Tacks‚Äö?Ñ?¥ sound apart from their peers. The Austin Chronicle called Oh, Beatrice, 'a mixture of ecstasy and mania', comparing Tacks‚Äö?Ñ?¥ sound to Bowie, Beach Boys, and the early Factory Records releases. This will be their first time in the UK.
