THE CARESS (onstage 9.50pm) were very much an alternative three piece combo based in New Cross, South East London, comprised of brothers Tom, Ben and Sam. They now however number five with the arrival of new guitarists Cameron MacInnes and Dave Hickman, formerly of The Little Deaths band in Birmingham. On July 13th The Caress released their second sparkling EP, ‘In Technicolour’, with an edited version of the thoroughly epic title track being launched to radio. They very much like ‘60s pop drama and ‘80s indie flourishes and thoroughly arty heartbreak.

SAD BOYS CLUB (onstage 9.00pm) are the new saviours lurking on the alt.rock block. Over the past eight months they have self-released a furious flurry of hyper-excellent singles, all of which mix modern shiny pop palavers with classic alternative tactics. The end results are a touch like the mythical missing link between The 1975 and Placebo, as evinced by brrrand new track ‘Sleepyhead’, out on fierce panda on July 27th.
