CuT (onstage 9.00pm) are a London ‘space punk’ quintet who play that rock’n’roll and they play it mean, with low-slung riffs and dark-hearted melodies. Longtime faves of Steve Lamacq on 6 music, CuT will be boxing the DJ’s in box once again with the imminent ‘This Way That Way’ single, which is released on May 25th on RA RA ROK Records on download and 200 vinyl 7”s.

DESPERATE JOURNALIST have been hoovering up the plaudits for their excellent 'Desperate Journalist' debut album over the past few months. The latest single release is the thoroughly rollicking 'Hesitate' track – out on May 25th - the handsomely claustrophobic video for which lives at www.youtube.com/watch?v=7BxL2n4RWfI
It was directed by long-time collaborator Jason Weidner. "The inspiration for the video came from my coming across the work of film artist Takashi Ito by random chance," explains singer Jo Bevan. "I was really struck by how he uses time lapse photography, projection and altered film speeds in a sketching way to make something at once sadly romantic, ghostly and kind of mundane. I sent one of his films ('Grim') to Jason and he came up with a treatment inspired by Ito's aesthetic which perfectly reflects the paralysing anxiety of the lyrics." And "paralysing anxiety" could well be Desperate Journalist's middle name, because over the past two years the boy / girl / girl / boy quartet have perfected a terrific, terse alt.rock sound which lurks in gothic shadows and nods at past independent glories while creating a refreshingly reckless hullabaloo in the modern sleek alt.pop age. This is the defiance of alternative melodic science. But don't take our word for it - take these desperate journalists' thoughts on 'Desperate Journalist' by Desperate Journalist here...

"Indie hymnals, just at home in the murk of a basement club and the strobe lit concert hall, as the solitary bedroom. Walls diffused with posters of bands, a silent audience that reflects your wanton heart." - drownedinsound

“There’s a burning sense of anger bubbling beneath the surface, a passion and intensity that has been sorely lacking in much of what passes for indie over the last few years.” – The Von Pop Musical Express

“Desperate Journalist play powerful guitar pop that hits like The Smiths amped up to Savages’ intensity levels...A ceaseless onslaught of riffs, rhythms and Jo Bevan’s commanding microphone presence.” - Stereogum

"What this record does possess is a joie de vivre and a humanity absent from so much of what passes for indie these days. It's not a lost cause, the world just needs more records that make you swoon, like this one." - The Quietus
