So Club Fandango's shinest newest showcase night continues to be called 'Rising'. It is supported by the kind hearts at Music Week. It takes place at the excellent Black Heart in the black heart of Camden Town on the first Thursday of each and every month. Apart from this month, when it falls, half maddened by gin, on the second Wednesday of June. This month is epic and indie and indeed epically indie, like this:
PHANTOM RUNNERS (onstage 10.00pm) are four boys who live in Brighton and who are alive to the melodic leftfield possibilities of an indie sound which nods knowingly at The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart, Stone Roses and The Smiths. Throw in the band's self-professed interests of "clapped out cars, stargazing and summertime" and let the fringes billow in the guitar breeze...

THE NEW UNION (onstage 9.10pm) are more boys from Brighton working to the mantra of "Sometimes you have to go it alone..." Debut self-release 'Without You' sparked a wave of interest in their emotional, grandiose take on iconic guitar pop, the 'Staying Friends' EP continued the surge, and current single 'NOW' appeared in March to be festooned with media lovings such as: "Piano-driven pop with an epic edge, it rips and roars with a real energy," (Clash)

LONGFELLOW (onstage 8.20pm) are playing a special surprise birthday slot tonight. It was precisely a year ago when they performed their first heroically emotive show together at the Buffalo Bar for your hosts Club Fandango, since when they have released three terrifically alt.pop-tastic singles, been catapulted onto the Radio 2 playlist with ‘Kiss-Hug-Make Up’, been flown to SXSW at the behest of BBC Introducing and just generally had more fun than a drunk meerkat on a trampoline. Expect an early-career-defining mini-album called ‘Prelude’ on fierce panda on July 14th.
