So Club Fandango's shinest newest showcase night is called 'Rising'. It is supported by the kind hearts at Music Week. It now takes place at the excellent Black Heart in the black heart of Camden Town on the first Thursday of each and every month. This month we have something for everybody to shuffle along to from Manflu's art-punk sounds to Longfellow's melodic alt rock vibe via Cut's cutting edges...
MANFLU (onstage 10.00pm) are an art-punk quintet who have a truly transglobal heritage, with members coming from Kazakhstan, Japan, France, Brooklyn and London. Their influences include Can, Siouxsie and The Banshees and Devo and comparisons have been made with Xmal Deutschland, Sonic Youth and Captain Beefheart. Their live show is something that should never be missed and their self-professed genre? Russian prostitute rock, of course.
CUT (onstage 9.10pm) are a London quartet who play that rock'n'roll and they play it mean with lowslung riffs and darkhearted melodies, as evinced by the blood and thunder of their 'Get Me A Gun' track. Expect a new single, 'Time Traveller' sometime in Marchtime.
LONGFELLOW (onstage 8.20pm) are a South London quintet who supported Keane at their special Kentish anniversary show back in October. Theirs is the sound of sad melodies and disconsolate keyboards being ruffled by some heroic alt.rock rallyings and their 'Siamese Lover' single was released on 27th January via Label Fandango. Expect a mini-album in the spring... www.facebook.com/longfellowmusicMORE NEWS
