NATIONAL SERVICE (onstage 9.15pm) tonight launch their second single ‘Timid Kisses’, an urgent, restless guitar track that couples the quartet’s signature baritone vocal with hypnotic, unrelenting drums. While the tender lyric recalls the fond memory of a love lost, the claustrophobia in the music points towards a more forlorn nostalgia. The song ascends to its frantic climax, ruminating on what is now and what could have been. www.facebook.com/nationalservicemusic

MARINE (onstage 8.15pm) grew in the gaps between the concrete of the city. With four very different stories they hoped to combine uniquely into just one, where all they had listened to overlapped: intuitive beats that make you want to move, bass hypnosis in the undercurrent playfully countering melody, and with a deep love of contrast, two vocals which braid together over hooky guitar lines into a complex plait of old and new, understated and operatic, light and dark. www.facebook.com/wearemarinemarine

ORCHID (onstage 7.30pm) is the dirt of a lullaby and the softness in rage. Lost in pop and endless waters, singing with adoration for the hurt-girl RnB voices that moved her first. Orchid is just one, Orchid Vishkaly, singing, writing and producing, joining the canon of 2000’s self-taught bedroom artists, taking up space in corners of the city with a miniature studio. A new single called ‘Jasmines’, a burst of the will to be loved, is out in early September. www.facebook.com/orchidmusiclondon
