The Truth: The TenFiveSixty consist of Rick Hornby and Jen Bailey, a pair of Northerners who discovered each other loitering in a deserted music shop in the West End of London. The two soon realised they both harboured the same feelings on bands and songwriting, sharing a love of lost romanticism, soundtracks, '60s girl groups, '80s hooks, good footwear, attention to detail and the darker side of classic British guitar pop. It quickly became apparent that they had a job to do. There was a record that, quite simply, had to be made.

Before that, there were adventures to be had: armed with two battered acoustic guitars and one Mini (the car's condition has never been specified) the duo drove from Tennessee to California, writing as they went and asking to play whenever they could - usually in second hand clothes shops in less-than-salubrious neighbourhoods for a case of beer.

With their ideas honed and their melodic muscles toned they returned back to Blighty, swapped the acoustics for electrics, plugged in and turned it up and finished enough tracks for an album. The end result of all their endeavours is sultry, fragile and not averse to the off smokily manic moodswing which sees them squeeze in between Mazzy Star and The Pretenders, with a dash of Fleetwood Mac for broody measure.

They've started this year in typically understated mode: with their gigs still barely out of single figures The TenFiveSixty kicked off 2012 with a frankly stunning appearance at fierce panda's Pandamonium event, whereupon they supported Ultrasound at Hoxton Bar & Kitchen and 'released' a DIY tweet-for-a-track song called 'Killer's Son'. Now comes the debut single proper, 'Do This For Me', a suitably restrained TenFiveSixty slinkdance that comes backed by a remix from San Diego's Crocodiles which - ahem - ups the anti-commercial ante.

Along the way The TenFiveSixty have been gently amazing amazingly gentle punters with a live show which carefully-but-casually evolves from placid melodies into waves of dark sonic nonchalance. You can't see the joins, but you'll feel the burn. In their heads, the bold soundscapes and thoughtful lyrics conjure up a twilight world of love and loss, with not a second of space wasted. In their own words, "We wanted to create the sound of something exciting, but that still has a real beauty and sadness within the details. We do want you to dance, but while your heart is breaking..."
