SEERAUBER JENNY was founded by young Fran Barker in a leaky conservatory with a 4-track, a miscellany of instruments and a bag load of fuzzy influences like Sonic Youth and My Bloody Valentine and storms and mountains and adventures. At some point she packed up her 4-track and miscellany of instruments and bag load of fuzzy influences and moved from Wiltshire to Brighton, doing occasional solo gigs along the way (although not literally on the verge of the A36 or indeed the A27). At another point her raw acoustic creations Fran herself describes her music as being simultaneously both earthy and shoegazey, like it has its feet on the floor and its heart on reaching for the stars infiltrated the electropop ears of Neil Claxton in Manchesters Mint Royale. Despite living 150 miles away he managed to turn Frans hissy, vague musical ideas into fully realised and infinitely more enjoyable grown up songs. And here are two of them now, an A- and a AA-side borne of the seaside and manipulated somewhere near Moss Side. Push It Away is SEERAUBER JENNYs first ever release. It is prickly and enigmatic, racy and rolling - a tense, nervous heartache. Waste Of Time meanwhile is lush and lonely and therefore a typically lovely, brooding Label Fandango flipside. Like Fran and Neil themselves its a great double act. Wed spin both songs at the same time if only we could afford another gramophone player. The live plot adds yet more smoke to the hall of SEERAUBER JENNY mirrors: Fran provides the tunes and Neil contributes squeaks, bleeps, chimes and whistles, sometimes all at the same time but only ever in the studio, not in the SEERAUBER JENNY live band. Or in their own words, Seerauber Jenny is essentially Fran and Neil but has obviously expanded beyond its initial beginnings hence we are having difficulty in finding a succinct description. All we know is that it is neither band nor singer/songwriter, and Neil never appears on stage but is integral to the live sound. Its probably more of a music project, or maybe a band of two where only one of them performs, but with three other different people on stage. Difficult.
