The Mau-maus
The Mau-maus are undoubtedly one of the hottest bands around right now and released a fabulous single on the equally fabulous Boobytrap Records a few months ago. This 6-piece, London-based band are a long awaited breath of fresh air, building a passionate legion of followers with their intoxicating sound of chunky R&B, extravagant hip-hop, cut-up-classical and spiky alt-rock - all this carried off while maintaining a seductive pop sensibility. Live, they are sexy, slick and energetic with a goodly portion of their tongues in their chic. Picture this: the 'Stayin' Alive' wrap party where the Scissor Sisters are performing with The Bee Gees on BVs and Alkan scoring the soundtrack. Their leader is one 6ft 4 Peter De Havilland, sporting a '70s Yves Saint Laurent pencil suit, ruffed shirts, aviators and spiral curls. Expect a party.
