Tubelord
Tubelord are Joseph Prendergast (19, vocals/guitar), Sean Bamberger (21, bass) and David Catmur (drums, 20). They're also a thrilling new kind of band, one who make pop songs for rock kids, straddling the best of both worlds. Their fizzing combination of breakneck pop, anvil-heavy riffs and super-infectious, chorus-like refrains mines a virgin sound. Word spread fast beyond their native Kingston and earned them early praise. NME called them a "thrilling band," observing, "with their jerky dance-punk rhythms smoothed out into melodic choruses, the trio post the best kind of dilemma – should we try and dance or concentrate on learning the words?." Meanwhile 'Feed Me A Box Of Words' became a XFM favourite, earning plays from John Kennedy and John Hilcock, with Marsha Shandur naming it a contender for her single of the year for its blend of 'pop and poetic leftfield noise.' She says: "The thing that makes me know this band's amazing is the fact that, in spite of them somehow changing direction four times in one song, I keep coming back and back to their songs."
