Deportivo
Deportivo gathered in a West London studio in 2006 with a handful of song ideas, bags of enthusiasm, a few favourite records and a ‘never say die’ mentality. Over 1 year later, 7524 cups of coffee, 2521 cups of tea, 9354 Marlboro Lights, tears, tantrums, toilet gigs and 16 tracks of great, thumping, joyous and classic English pop later… Deportivo have stepped up to the podium like a wounded but determined English rugby player ready to challenge the hordes of skinny jean wearing drama school drop outs to bring good, honest, sincere pop music back to the fold. With heavy influences from the likes of Squeeze, XTC, ELO, Blur, Supertramp and many more… Deportivo songs sound like they were written during a particularly good seaside holiday in 1974 combined with a three-week bender full of romantic liaisons on 0-0 draws in the less salubrious drinking holes and back streets of any major city in the UK. So there you have it… If you like your bands with an air of arrogance, more style than content and some ‘interesting’ and ‘angular’ guitar riffs, there are about 500,745 to choose from. If you want a band that will make you smile and hum on a packed Northern Line tube train to work on a Monday morning, it is really time that you had a listen to Deportivo.
