Jukes
Jukes (aka Tammy Payne) has gone from working on a cruise liner at 17 to copying the riffs of Thelonius Monk and John Coltrane, drumming in Salsa bands, playing for Patrick Duff (Strangelove) and John Paris, to developing an obsession with Leonard Cohen, Simon And Garfunkel, Bowie and The Beatles. Finally came Jukes, the first album, with Twisted Nerve Records. Run by eclectic DJ and producer Andy Votel and his mate Badly Drawn Boy it was a perfect place to be. A place where beats and folk were at home together. The new album to be released by Triumphant Sound is an album full of classic songs with a twist. Best described as folk meeting r&b and soul. Think of Henrix covering Bob Dylan and you get an idea of the direction. Add in some psychedelia and great narratives and you have a genre hoping record which is both bitter and sweet.
