Stornoway
Stornoway are 'a living, breathing Mark Twain novel', allegedly. Think Super Furry Animals, Gorky's, early Belle and Sebastian, Beta Band with a bit of Dylan style folk and blues thrown in. 'Excellent ditties', asserted Bethan Elfyn of BBC Radio One; 'Moments of real magic', declared Tom Horan of The Daily Telegraph. This is, after all, headrush Hebridean folkpop with garnish. The collective consists of an ornithologist, an occasional Russian translator, a South African Pirate Captain and a human radio. They were first united in a snow-encrusted garage in Oxford early 2006 and have since attracted the attention of their neighbours, Dr & Mrs Killjoy and their android children. They occasionally invite an equine guest onstage.
