Fight Like Apes
Fight Like Apes hail from Dublin and weigh in at over six hundred pounds. Fight Like Apes combine the Synth with the Sword in a heroic conflagration of loutish vocals, brutal bass and digital distortion. Formed in 2006 from the remnants of various 'crap bands', with an avowed intention to scare audiences with 'poppy songs played so obnoxiously that everybody leaves'. Warming to the thrilling FLA live experience, audiences first stopped leaving and then started coming to their gigs. Encouraged, Fight Like Apes released two EPs in 2007 on Dublin independent label Fifa Records. The first one - 'How Am I Supposed To Kill You If You Have All The Guns' - spawned ‘Jake Summers’ (a fan letter to '90s teen-drama 'California Dreams' ); which was picked up by Fierce Panda offshoot Cool For Cats for a UK 7” single release. The 'David Carradine Is A Bounty Hunter Whose Robotic Arm Hates Your Crotch' EP, released at the end of 2007, consolidated their position as the most exciting new band in their native land, rounding off a year of gigging around Ireland, the UK and a trip to New York for CMJ. They've now recorded their debut album with John Goodmanson (Los Campesinos, Sleater-Kinney, Bikini Kill), scheduled for release in September 2008 on new Irish indie Model Citizen. Inhabiting a topsy-turvy world, where Mclusky's hardcore shred rubs raw against kung fu queen Cynthia Rothrock, Fight Like Apes choose music as their weapon; a synth-stained hybrid of tasers and nunchucks in high-voltage pop songs the size of Saturn. It's the Apes' planet - we just live on it.
